JUNE 15, 2025 — San Salvador de Jujuy in Argentina will soon have an official city flag, following the approval of a new ordinance by the city council, according to a news report by Diario Todo Jujuy.

On June 12, the City Council passed Ordinance No. 8153/25, authorizing the creation of a flag to represent the city in official ceremonies and public events.

The initiative seeks to establish a unifying symbol for the capital of Jujuy Province and reflects an effort to foster local identity through citizen involvement.

The process to design the flag will be organized as a public competition, encouraging participation from residents across the city.

According to the ordinance, the creation will unfold in three stages: a collection of ideas from the public, design work by experts and professionals, and a final vote by the community to select the winning proposal. One requirement for the design is that it must include an allusion to the provincial Bandera de la Libertad Civil (Flag of Civil Liberty).

“The ordinance creates a participatory process that allows us to generate a symbol that unites all the residents,” said Lisandro Aguiar, President of the City Council.

The forthcoming competition will be governed by the terms set in an annex to the ordinance, which defines the rules for participation, submission guidelines, and voting procedures.
