La Falda Selects Winning Design for New Municipal Flag

JULY 9, 2025 — A jury in the Argentine city of La Falda has selected the winning design for the municipality’s first official flag today, reports the Córdoba Interior Informa, following a public competition that attracted widespread community participation.

Juan Martín Borga, a 16-year-old high school student from La Falda, has been selected as the winner of the city’s official flag design competition, bringing to fruition a dream he first presented to the city council four years ago at age 12, according to La Estafeta Online.

The winning flag features three horizontal stripes. The light blue stripe at the top represents the Argentine flag, while the white stripe in the middle references both the Province of Córdoba and the work of the people of La Falda. The green stripe at the bottom symbolizes the city’s natural environment.

The flag’s central feature consists of eight four-pointed stars of varying sizes positioned in the white stripe, totaling 32 points that represent the rays of the sun from the Argentine flag. The four larger stars reference historic sites in the city: the Eden Hotel, the train station, the Santísimo Sacramento Sanctuary, and the Cuckoo Clock. The four smaller stars represent natural sites: the 7 Cascades Resort, Puma Park, the Pampa de Olaen, and Cerro La Banderita.

“It was a historic process for La Falda. There were more than 20 proposals that went through a selection process and 18 remained. Then three were chosen that entered by vote and from there they voted again. For us it is a source of pride because it was a participatory process with proposals from adults and children,” Mayor Javier Dieminger explained to La Estafeta.

The flag will be officially presented in the coming weeks, and Dieminger has announced plans to issue a decree establishing July 8 as the Day of La Falda’s Flag.
