JULY 22, 2025 — The Spanish municipality of O Porriño is moving to adopt its first-ever official flag and coat of arms, with a proposed design that pays tribute to its most famous architect, Antonio Palacios, as well as its local heritage, according to reporting by Faro de Vigo.
The provisional designs have been approved by the Heraldry Commission of Galicia and are now heading to a local commission for review before a final vote expected by the end of August.
The proposed coat of arms features a bridge over the Louro River, topped by a tower that evokes the town hall designed by Palacios. His profession is directly referenced with the inclusion of a silver compass and plumb bob.
Two golden stalks of wheat symbolize the town’s baking tradition, and a silver gear represents its industrial sector. The design is set on a blue field over blue and silver waves, topped by a royal crown. The flag will incorporate the same elements.
The mayor, Alejandro Lorenzo, stated that the goal is to represent the town’s identity, “stone, bread, industry, the river, architecture”, and that the public will have the opportunity to review and comment on the proposal before it is finalized.
