JULY 30, 2025 — In an event on Monday, July 28, the city of Jesús María in Argentina officially announced a public contest to design its first official city flag, according to Radio Jesús María.

The launch ceremony took place at the Bodega de la Estancia Jesuítica, a historic site central to the city’s foundation.

Attending were Mayor Federico Zárate, Vice-Governor Myrian Prunotto, Córdoba provincial legislators, local institutional representatives, and key figures from the educational and cultural sectors.

The contest, directed by technical expert Cristian Baquero Lazcano, invites individuals over 16 years old with at least two years of residency in Jesús María, along with local institutions, NGOs, and neighborhood organizations, to participate.

The winning flag will be formally adopted as the city’s official emblem to be used in institutional ceremonies, schools, public events, and community gatherings.

Founded as a villa in 1873 and declared a city in 1946, Jesús María’s identity draws on its Jesuit heritage dating back to 1618, indigenous Sanavirón roots, colonial architecture, the arrival of the railroad, immigration, and agricultural development, said the Córdoba Interior Informa.

Mayor Zárate said during the event that, “the flag will be a visual synthesis of who we are as a community. It connects us to our roots and projects our aspirations, uniting generations over time.”

Vice-Governor Prunotto said that “the flag will carry our history, present, and future, reflecting Jesús María’s spirit of work, culture, and education.”

Following the selection, the new flag will be distributed to schools, public bodies, and community organizations as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local identity.
