AUGUST 1, 2025 — Yesterday, Chinese state media Xinhua reported that Chinese leader Xi Jinping has signed an official order unveiling the flag designs for four key new military branches: the Military Space Force (clockwise from top left), Cyber Force, Information Support Force, and Joint Logistics Support Force.
This announcement coincides with the upcoming Army Day on August 1st, China’s annual celebration of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
The newly released flags are based on the iconic “August 1” (Bayi) flag, which symbolizes the founding of the PLA.
The designs emphasize the Communist Party’s absolute leadership over the military and underscore the unified direction of the Chinese armed forces.
Each flag continues the established military flag pattern featuring an upper and lower segment aligned with the golden ratio, a hallmark of Chinese military vexillology.
Distinctive colours and symbols have been chosen to reflect the unique strategic functions and domain characteristics of each branch.
The new flags will take official effect on August 1st.
