Primary School Student’s Design Unfurled as Official Flag of Girvan

AUGUST 9, 2025 — In Scotland, a local primary school pupil, Winter Ingram of Sacred Heart Primary, has seen her artistic vision raised above her hometown, after Girvan’s community overwhelmingly selected her design to become the new town flag, reports the Daily Record.

In a ceremony held on Saturday, August 2, Winter was awarded a prize and certificate as the winning flag, featuring the iconic Ailsa Craig and green waves representing both the River Girvan and the sea, was officially hoisted for the first time.

Her design, rooted in Girvan’s maritime heritage and civic identity, was chosen by around half of all local voters in a public ballot held earlier this summer.

Winter’s flag triumphed over three other finalists, selected from 184 community submissions with guidance from the Court of the Lord Lyon, Scotland’s heraldic authority.

Runner-up prizes went to Ebony Taylor, Dawn Cabadunga, and James Hodgson.
