AUGUST 13, 2025 — As India prepares to celebrate Independence Day, former Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Sheel Madhur has renewed his appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare July 22 as National Flag Day, according to the Tribune.
Madhur requested that the Prime Minister make this significant announcement during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort.
Addressing students and teachers at an event held in the Rewari district, Madhur highlighted the historical and patriotic importance of the Tiranga. He explained its symbolism, the values it represents, and the proper etiquette for handling the flag as per the Flag Code of India.
Madhur has been campaigning actively since 2021 to get July 22 officially recognized as National Flag Day. This date marks the adoption of the Indian National Flag by the Constituent Assembly in 1947.
This movement follows Madhur’s earlier call in 2022, when ETV Bharat reported that he launched a nationwide campaign seeking recognition of July 22 as National Flag Day.
