Charbonier, Argentina, Chooses Local Flag

AUGUST 22, 2025 — Charbonier, a small community in Argentina’s Córdoba Province, has officially adopted its own local flag as part of a provincial initiative to strengthen regional identity, reports Córdoba Interior Informa.

The new emblem was presented on August 6, at a ceremony held at the Paula Albarracín de Sarmiento School, with local residents, educators, and officials in attendance.

The project was carried out under the Legislature of Córdoba’s “Nuestra Bandera” (“Our Flag”) program, which encourages municipalities to create symbols representing their heritage and aspirations.

The winning design was created by community member Silvia Edith Alfaro and selected from 13 proposals submitted by residents.

According to La Estafeta Online, the flag features three horizontal stripes of equal size: celeste (sky blue), white, and purple. Each colour carries symbolic meaning: sky blue represents clear skies, vital access to water, and a connection to Argentina’s national flag; white expresses peace, unity, and integration, echoing Córdoba’s provincial colours; and purple stands for collective effort, dignity, wisdom, and the desire for progress among Charbonier’s people.

With this decision, Charbonier joins 141 other communities in Córdoba Province that have adopted local flags. Within the Punilla Valley corridor, it became the second locality to do so, following the nearby city of La Falda.

The official raising of the new flag will take place in a public ceremony in the coming weeks.
