Indigenous Flag Exhibition Opens in Taiwan

AUGUST 22, 2025 — Shoufeng Township in Hualien County, Taiwan, is celebrating the rich heritage of its Indigenous communities through a cultural education event titled “Flying Banners, Living Memories”, says KS News.

Initiated by Township Mayor Tseng Shu-yi, the exhibition is being held at the Shoufeng Township Indigenous Artifacts Museum and will run until October 31, 2025.

The exhibition features 15 unique flags, each designed by members of Shoufeng’s Indigenous tribes. These flags incorporate totemic symbols inspired by local landscapes, seasonal rituals, traditional artifacts, Indigenous languages, and collective historical memories.

In addition to the exhibition, visitors are invited to take part in engaging activities, including guided tours of the flag displays and a social media campaign where participants can take photos with the flags and share their reflections, receiving small gifts in return.

The event includes participation from tribes such as Tdlu, Sawanengan, Rinahem, and Tumay, among others, according to eTaiwan.

Tseng hopes that the exhibition will not only allow visitors to experience the vivid beauty of Indigenous culture but also inspire younger generations to appreciate the enduring strength of their heritage.
