SEPTEMBER 6, 2025 — La Merced, a municipality in Argentina, has officially announced a public contest to design its first municipal flag, says El Tribuno.
The competition, titled “Creación de la Bandera del Municipio de La Merced,” is open to individuals over the age of 12 who were either born in the municipality or who can demonstrate at least three years of residency. The deadline to submit proposals is October 3.
The winning flag design will be awarded a prize of one million pesos. In the special case where the creation comes from an educational institution, an additional incentive will be granted in the form of a monthly bonus of 200,000 pesos for five consecutive months.
The rules of the contest specify that the flag must respect the official 2:3 rectangular proportion and cannot include political, religious, or discriminatory symbols. The design should instead reflect the values, traditions, geography, history, and cultural identity of La Merced.
The winning selection will be made by a jury composed of specialists in graphic design, visual arts, history, and community representatives, who will evaluate originality, symbolic relevance, clarity, and adaptability of the design across multiple formats and contexts.
