SEPTEMBER 6, 2025 — The Village of Wheeling in Illinois has unveiled a new flag design, says a government press release posted on August 4.
This new flag features a bold red wheel centred on a horizontal red bar against a white background, symbolizing peace, unity, and progress. The wheel, with its eight spokes, is a direct representation of Wheeling’s origins in transportation and industry, with each spoke marking a significant milestone in the village’s development, from the Treaty of Chicago in 1833 to the transformation of the Station Area and the history of the local airport.
The red horizontal bars on the flag denote unobstructed travel and movement, reflecting the village’s thriving connections via road, rail, and air, while the white background signifies the peace and unity foundational to Wheeling’s success.
This new design was carefully chosen to honour the community’s past while aligning with contemporary branding and the village’s forward-looking spirit.
Officials emphasize that the flag is more than a visual marker; it is a celebration of Wheeling’s vibrant history, its present vitality, and its promising future.
