SEPTEMBER 6, 2025 — The City of Rock Springs, Wyoming, has launched a youth flag design contest earlier this week, inviting all K-12 students in the city to design a new city flag that embodies the spirit of unity and diversity, according to a Facebook post by the city government.
With the theme, “Many Cultures, One Community: Rock Springs Together,” the competition aims to capture the essence of Rock Springs’ rich heritage and bright future, while empowering local youth to play a visible role in shaping how their city is represented.
The contest opened on September 1st and will run through October 15, 2025. In addition to the artwork, participants are asked to provide their name, grade, school, and a brief paragraph explaining the inspiration and symbols behind their submission.
Beyond the thrill of seeing their art become the new city flag, the grand prize winner will receive a $500 cash award funded by Mayor Max Mickelson.
The winning flag will be considered by the City Council and, if adopted, will become an enduring symbol flown over Rock Springs.
