SEPTEMBER 29, 2025 — A new wave of community pride is flying high in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, as Punxsutawney officially unveiled its first borough flag, according to WJAC News.
The initiative, led by the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce, has been years in the making. Chamber President Katie Laska explained that while residents have long displayed homemade banners at local events, this marks the first time the town has an officially recognized symbol.
The flag’s design pays tribute to Punxsutawney’s heritage, incorporating elements that reflect its Native American roots, coal mining history, and of course, the town’s world-famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil.
The Chamber of Commerce plans to make the new borough flag available for purchase in the near future so residents and visitors can display a piece of Punxsutawney’s identity.
