OCTOBER 13, 2025 — Ethiopia observed its 18th National Flag Day today in a ceremony that celebrated the flag as an enduring symbol of national pride, unity, and sovereignty, says Fana Media.
The theme for this year is “National Flag for Heralding the Era of Ethiopia’s Great Leap, National Unity, Sovereignty, and Renewal.”
According to the Ethiopian News Agency, President Taye Atske Selassie, in his keynote address, highlighted Flag Day as the moment when Ethiopians renew their love for the nation and strengthen unity. He noted that the celebrations were especially meaningful this year, coinciding with the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
The ceremony featured an early-morning flag-raising at 10:30 a.m., synchronized across federal institutions, regional administrations, defence camps, and embassies. An oath-taking ceremony followed.
House Speaker Tagesse Chafo expressed that Flag Day would continue as an annual event, guaranteed by constitutional and legislative provisions.
