OCTOBER 20, 2025 — In England, residents across Telford and Wrekin are being asked to cast their votes to help decide the design of the borough’s first official flag, according to a press release by the Council.
The opportunity follows a popular local competition in June that saw more than 1,000 schoolchildren submit entries earlier this year, inspiring the four final designs now shortlisted for public selection.
Voting opened today and will remain live until Sunday, November 2. Participants can make their choice online, with a limit of one vote per email address.
Each of the four finalists recently met with a professional designer to refine their drawings according to guidelines from the Flag Institute, which emphasize simplicity, symbolic meaning, and the use of only two or three colours.
Councillor Lee Carter, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, praised the creativity shown by the young artists.
“The Borough has so much to offer but one thing we haven’t had is a flag as a symbol which people would recognise as being Telford and Wrekin,” he told Shropshire Live earlier.
“We’ve got so much to be proud of both nationally and locally in Telford and Wrekin and I hope people will take part in the public vote to choose the flag they feel best represents the Borough,” he said.
The project, organized in partnership with Telford Live and community groups, aims to give the borough a distinctive emblem that embodies local pride. As an added incentive, the school behind the winning design will receive £250 from Telford Live to support further arts and cultural activities.
