NOVEMBER 1, 2025 — An advertising agency has launched “Lifeless Flag,” a campaign that reinterprets Brazil’s flag by visually striping the blue and green from the flag to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect the planet’s oceans, says Marketing Communication News.
Created by Droga5 for the SOS Oceano coalition, the project transforms one of Brazil’s most iconic national symbols into a stark environmental warning bearing the message “No blue, no green.”
Unveiled on October 23 during Rio Ocean Week, the campaign’s centrepiece, a 10-meter flag, was hoisted between the Museum of Tomorrow and the Rio Art Museum, symbolizing how the loss of ocean health threatens all life on Earth.
According to Droga5’s Chief Design Officer, Diego Limberti, “In this campaign, we use emotional language to change the way people see blue and green forever. Technically, blue is a primary color — the starting point for many others. Green, for instance, exists because there’s blue. It’s from the meeting of blue and yellow that the color representing our forests is born. Just like in nature: without the blue of the oceans, there’s no green of life on land.”
“When the flag loses its blue, it loses its green — and the visual void becomes an alert.”
The installation also marked the public debut of SOS Oceano, a movement advocating for stronger marine protection policies in Brazil and supporting the global goal of safeguarding 30 percent of the world’s oceans by 2030.
