NOVEMBER 13, 2025 — The Dutch town of Beneden-Leeuwen has introduced its own flag, an initiative that originated from the Lauwse Dorpsquiz, reports DeMaasenWaler.
The winning design was created by the team Annie’s Verjaardag, whose members aimed to capture the essence of the community through symbolism and colour.
The flag features three main colours: green, blue, and yellow. According to the designers, green represents the rural landscape of the Land van Maas en Waal, while blue refers to the River Waal that defines the region’s geography. Yellow symbolizes the vibrancy of village life, its associations, shops, hospitality, businesses, and residents.
At the centre of the flag is a design combining a lion’s head with the form of a flower. The creators describe this dual image as a reflection of the village’s spirit: “Sturdy as a lion, but also open and flourishing as a village where everyone knows each other.”
