DECEMBER 20, 2025 — The Autonomous Local Entity (ELA) of Estación Linares-Baeza in Jaén, Spain, has officially adopted its own distinct flag and coat of arms, reports Jaén Hoy.
The official recognition, a first for the community, follows the unanimous approval by the Local Council on October 17. The resolutions, dated November 20 and publicized on November 26, 2025, confirm the definitive adoption of the symbols.
The newly approved coat of arms is divided into four quarters. The first and fourth quarters feature a green background. The first quarter displays a red stripe, symbolizing the Guadalimar River, whose name translates to “red river,” alongside an ear of wheat, representing the surrounding agricultural lands. The fourth quarter directly references the town’s identity with a prominent steam engine, a tribute to the Estación Linares-Baeza’s historical railway significance.
The second and third quarters are set against a burgundy background. The second quarter features the keys of Saint Peter, the local patron, shown as two crossed keys in silver and gold. The third quarter includes a stork, often seen in the area and viewed as a traditional symbol of protection for the town.
The municipal flag, also now officialized, is a rectangular ensign with a proportion of 1:2. It is divided diagonally from the lower hoist corner to the upper fly corner. The upper diagonal section is green, symbolizing the region’s prevalent olive oil industry, while the lower section is burgundy, echoing the reference to the Guadalimar River found in the shield. The centre of the flag prominently displays the newly adopted coat of arms .
Melchor Villalba, the mayor of the ELA, celebrated the formal approval, emphasizing that the design was chosen through a participatory process. He told Jaén Hoy that the approval was a “historic event for the entity” and that the local government “cannot be happier or prouder that it is not a design chosen by a technical or professional jury or by the municipal corporation itself.”
Villalba stated, “We chose two options and it was the people who chose their favourite.”
