New Heraldic Symbols for Moldovan Border Village

JANUARY 31, 2026 — The Moldovan presidency has officially registered a new flag and coat of arms for the village of Sculeni, located in the Ungheni District along the Romanian border.

The symbols, sanctioned by a presidential decree signed by Maia Sandu on January 22, follow a resolution passed by the local communal council in late 2025.

The newly adopted flag is a square divided horizontally into two equal sections of blue and white. Centred on the dividing line is a yellow horse-drawn stagecoach, depicted in motion. This motif is mirrored in the lower section by three red roses arranged in a horizontal line, or fess.

The inclusion of a stagecoach, or diligență, is a more specific heraldic choice, intended to commemorate Sculeni’s history as a prominent customs point and nobility estate.
