Connecticut: Suffield Police Department Adopts Unique Flag

MARCH 22, 2026 — The Suffield Police Department in Connecticut has officially debuted a new agency flag following formal approval from town authorities, according to the Department’s Facebook post.

Designed by local officers, the ensign incorporates a blue, white, and yellow colour scheme derived from the municipal palette and the department’s existing uniform patch.

Nine horizontal stripes form the field of the flag, which the department states represent the “Nine Principles of Policing” established by Sir Robert Peel in 1829.

These principles traditionally emphasize that the power of the police is dependent on public approval and consent. Additionally, the flag features six stars representing what the department identifies as its core leadership traits: responsibility, empathy, adaptability, communication, respect, and decisiveness.

These stars are positioned in a triangular arrangement, a choice meant to evoke the silhouette of a folded United States national flag typically presented to the families of fallen officers.
