Pennsylvania: Bloomsburg Adopts Flag Designed by Local Resident

MARCH 22, 2026 — The Town of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, formally adopted its first official flag on March 9, concluding a multi-year design and legislative process initiated by a local resident.

The project began in October 2022 when the designer, Ayden Pointer, first shared a concept on the social media platform Reddit. Following a series of presentations to town officials, the council expressed interest in the design in late 2024, eventually moving to codify the specifications into local law last Monday, according to the council agenda and Pointer’s announcement.

The flag features a solid maroon field, a colour historically linked to local community identity and institutions. Along the bottom, a wavy blue stripe represents the Susquehanna River, which forms the town’s southern border.

Within this blue stripe, the motto “THE ONLY TOWN IN PENNSYLVANIA” is inscribed in gold lettering, referring to Bloomsburg’s unique distinction of being the only incorporated town in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Centred on the maroon field is a gold ring encircling the official seal of the Town of Bloomsburg, which prominently depicts the David Stroup Fountain. Built in the late 1800s as a practical water source for residents and horses, the fountain is described by the designer as “the symbolic centerpiece of Bloomsburg” and a “historic town square” landmark that evolved from a piece of infrastructure into a primary emblem of civic heritage.

According to the designer, the approval followed eighteen months of administrative procedure after the council’s initial positive reception.

This formal agreement between the Town of Bloomsburg and Pointer marks the conclusion of a nearly four-year transition from a digital hobbyist concept to an official government symbol.
