Spain: Turégano Launches Public Contest to Design Official Flag

MAY 11, 2026 — Turégano, located in the province of Segovia, Spain, has initiated a public contest to design an official flag for the town, says El Adelantado de Segovia.

According to municipal officials, the project is intended to ensure the new insignia “is born from the initiative of its residents,” thereby strengthening ties to the area’s history, culture, and local traditions.

Participation is restricted to individuals born or currently registered as residents in Turégano, as well as legally constituted local organizations.

Submissions must adhere to a 2:3 aspect ratio and include a written memorandum explaining the symbolic rationale behind the design.

To maintain impartiality, the local government has implemented an anonymous submission process utilizing pseudonyms.

The selection process will be conducted in several stages. An initial technical jury will evaluate the entries based on creativity, symbolism, and alignment with the existing municipal coat of arms.

This panel will select three finalists to be presented for a public vote by the local population. The design receiving the most support from residents will then be submitted to the Municipal Plenary for formal ratification.

The winning designer will receive a basket of regional food products from Segovia, and the municipality will retain ownership of all submitted entries for future use. The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2026.
