JULY 7, 2026 — The regional government of Valencia has officially approved and registered a new municipal flag for the Spanish town of Benirredrà, concluding an administrative process that began last autumn, reports the Spanish radio network Cadena SER.
Published in the official gazette of the Valencian government, the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana, the resolution formalizes the adoption of the flag and registers it within the local entities index of the Valencian Community.
The decision establishes an official vexillological symbol for the municipality, based directly on the local coat of arms that the regional government previously approved in 2005.
According to the Valencian newspaper Levante-EMV, the newly sanctioned flag features a 2:3 proportion and is vertically divided into two halves. The hoist side displays a white or pearl-grey gridiron on a blue field, representing Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of the municipality.
The fly side consists of three yellow thistles set against a red background, arranged with two on top and one below, which serves as a traditional emblem in the local heraldry.
The municipal council of Benirredrà originally voted unanimously to adopt the draft design in October 2025, after commissioning the project from the regional advisory body on heraldry and flags, the Consell Tècnic d’Heràldica i Vexil·lologia.
During the review process in March 2026, the technical committee issued a favourable report but recommended increasing the size of the thistles to enhance their visual recognizability. However, during an ordinary plenary session on June 18, the local council evaluated the recommendation and elected to maintain the original proportions without modification.
The regional government ultimately accepted the local council’s autonomy regarding the design.
