AUGUST 2, 2026 — The Brazilian state of Amazonas has officially updated its state flag to feature 62 silver stars, replacing the previous 25-star design to reflect every municipality currently existing within the territory, reports Rios de Notícias.
State Governor Wilson Lima enacted Law No. 8,469 on July 14, 2026, following its passage by the Legislative Assembly of Amazonas earlier in the month, with the official publication appearing in the state’s official gazette, Diário Oficial do Estado.
The legislative overhaul amends Article 7 of Law No. 1,513 from January 14, 1982, effectively replacing the historic visual annex to realign the state’s vexillological identity with its modern administrative division.
Originally designed in 1897, the prior emblem reflected only the 25 municipalities established at the turn of the twentieth century, leaving decades of subsequent municipal expansions unrepresented.
