AUGUST 9, 2026 — Officials in Loudon, Tennessee, United States, voted on July 20 to officially adopt a new flag designed by a local 13-year-old student, reports The News-Herald.
Eighth-grader Zander Lyle initiated the redesign after observing that the city’s previous banner lacked distinct local significance. Lyle drafted the graphic using desktop software and arranged for an online manufacturer to fabricate a prototype before presenting his proposal to the municipal Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and City Council.
According to Lyle, the previous city emblem utilized a red, white, and blue layout resembling the French national tricolour, which he viewed as disconnected from local heritage. His replacement design incorporates red and white to align with the athletic colours of the local school system, intended to symbolize future generations.
The flag also features a black stripe along the fly end, echoing a design element from the Tennessee state flag while referencing historic downtown municipal infrastructure, such as the local water tower.
