Argentina: Monte Maíz Selects Flag Designed by High School Students

OCTOBER 3, 2026 — Authorities in Monte Maíz, a town in Córdoba Province, Argentina, have unveiled the winner of a public competition to establish the municipality’s first official flag, reports the local media outlet Monte Maíz Mira.

Organized by the local Department of Culture, the contest generated over 100 entries submitted by individual residents and community organizations. A multidisciplinary jury unanimously selected a submission titled “Los Chicos del Maíz,” created by 4th-year technical students Lucas Amaya, Francisco Sánchez, and Rafael Agatielo from the Instituto Técnico y Orientado Sagrado Corazón, under the supervision of teacher Noelia Domínguez.

According to the student designers, green signifies the local woods, yellow represents corn, white is utilized as a background element to enhance contrast, and a sun emblem serves as a reference to the provincial flag of Córdoba.

Municipal plans dictate that after an initial 24-hour inaugural display in the local plaza, the original flag will be preserved in a commemorative display case, with replica flags flown alongside the provincial and national banners.
